Symptoms of Cystic Acne

Compared to basic acne forms like whiteheads and pimples, cystic acne is more serious and needs to be dealt with as quickly as possible. Cystic acne is the most painful type. It is basically a large infection under the skin that is highly sensitive to the touch.

An acne cyst is formed when a pore gets blocked which can be caused by a number of reasons but in most cases clogged pores are the result of oils on the face. This is when keratosis begins to occur as a result of the skin cells not being able to be shed properly due to the clogging of the pore. This then leads to improper cell regeneration under the skin and especially in the hair follicles which become clogged as well. As time goes on, the bacteria formed under the skin, which has no way out, begins to expand deep into the layers of skin stretching out the pores and spaces between the skin layers.

If you also have a hormonal imbalance, this growth of cystic acne is only made worse. The area of skin begins to swell outward and as it does it becomes extremely sensitive even to the lightest of pressures. This is a deep acne infection and because of the fact that it goes deep, it also takes a very long time to heal as well. This form of acne can also lead to lesions which in turn lead to serious acne scarring that no one wants to have to deal with.

There are but two choices when it comes to getting rid of these infections which includes the use of prescription medications specially formulated to kill off the bacteria causing the acne or worse: surgical removal of the infection. This surgical means can be either by scalpel or by laser of which the latter is much easier to bear and recover from.

One thing you should not do under any circumstance when one of these forms is try to pop it because it will not simply pop. Unlike a whitehead which is only a couple layers under the surface of the skin, these cysts are deep and any attempt to pop them or drain them can lead to them spreading as more skin tissue is torn. What is worse is the fact that the more it spreads, the more infected it will become as well as also being more likely to leave some very unsightly scarring.
